DO I NEED TO START IN FOUNDATIONS 1?

Yes, all students start in Foundations 1, because all improv theaters have their own philosophy and focus unique to that theater. However, if you have completed the improv curriculum at another improv school like UCB, iO, Second City, or Magnet Theater we do offer a discount on classes when there is room in the class.

DO I NEED TO BE FUNNY/HAVE EXPERIENCE?

No, you do not need to be funny, nor do you need any experience. Our classes focus more on being honest, and in the moment rather than just being funny. Our Foundations classes is the perfect place for anyone to get started improvising.  

HOW OLD DO STUDENTS NEED TO BE?

Students must be 18 years old to take classes with Empire. Four our teen classes students must be 14 years old or starting high school.

WHO TEACHES YOUR CLASSES?

Michael Lewis is currently teaching all of our classes and has created the curriculum for the three Foundations classes, Electives, and Workshops.

CAN I BOOK A WORKSHOP AT MY THEATER OR FOR MY TEAM?

Yes, you can. Michael Lewis has taught classes and performed all over the country. He is willing to travel to meet your workshop needs. Contact Empire for details.
